HRC office hours
The HRC office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, except for Wednesdays, when the office is open until 6 p.m. The HRC phone number is (785) 623-2650.
Srping/summer open gym hours
8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Friday
9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday
1 to 5 p.m. Sunday
HRC programs take priority over open gym time. A gym schedule is updated weekly and is available each Friday in the office or on the Web page.

Wednesday deadline
Pint size paintings
Are you afraid to let your little ones paint and get messy at home? Let them have the experience with us. Entry fee: $8. Date: Wednesdays, Aug. 4 to 25. Time: 10 to 10:45 a.m. Ages: 15 to 24 months with an adult. Location: Recreation Center. Limitations: minimum five, maximum 10.
Fire station tour
Come and join me on Tuesday, to prepare for the fire station by reading a story, talking about what happens at the fire station, making an art project and building a snack. On Thursday, we will meet at Hays Fire Station and learn basic fire safety, talk to real fireman, tour the fire station and talk about an escape route. Entry fee: $3 per family. Date: Aug. 3 and Aug. 5. Times: 10 to 11 a.m. Ages: 3 to 5 with an adult. Location: Aug. 3, Hays Recreation Center, Aug. 5, Hays Fire Station, 1507 Main.Limitations: minimum five, maximum 20.
Knitting
Learn the basic stitches of knitting during this class. You will learn how to make a dishcloth. As part of the fee each participant will receive a pair of knitting needle and yarn. Entry fee: $25. Date: Aug. 4 and 11. Times: 7 to 8:30 p.m. Ages: 10 to 15. Location: Recreation Center. Limitations: minimum three, maximum six. Instructor: Deanna Newberry.
USSSA men's northwest regional
Play will be open for class D and E teams for this State Qualifier. Contact the HRC office for more information about this tournament. Entry fee: $175. Date: Aug. 7 to 8. Limitations: minimum four teams .
Group fitness schedule
Class schedules and descriptions can be seen online at www.haysrec.org. All classes are drop-in classes for $2 per class or by punch card unless otherwise stated. Punch cards can be purchased at the HRC office for $20 for 12 punches.
* Low Impact -- 8:10 to 9 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays.
* TRX training, 1 to 1:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays.
* Cardio Mix -- 5:30 to 6:20 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays.
* Light lunch -- 12:15 to 12:45 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.
* Step Interval -- 4:30 to 5:20 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.
* Yoga -- 5:30 to 6:20 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.
* Zumba -- 6:35 to 7:25 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.
* Thirty-minute power -- 12:15 to 12:45 p.m. Wednesdays.
* Cardio Combo -- 5:30 to 6:20 a.m. Fridays.
* Step On Up -- 8:10 to 9 a.m. Fridays
* Water works classes -- Classes continue through Aug. 6. 12:15 to 1 p.m. Monday-Wednesday-Friday, 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. Monday-Tuesday-Thursday.
* Aqua-Zumba -- Classes continue until Aug. 4. 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. Wednesdays.
* River walking -- River walking is a great aerobic exercise with little impact on your joints. Entry fee: $1 per class. 10:30 to 11 a.m. Mondays through Aug. 2.
Senior fitness classes
All classes are drop to in classes and are $1 per session.
* Sit and Be Fit, 1 to 1:30 p.m. Tuesdays.
* Line dancing, 1 to 1:30 p.m. Wednesdays.
* Arthritis Foundation Sit and Be Fit, 1 to 1:30 p.m. Thursdays.
