The HRC office hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, except for Wednesdays, when the office is open until 6 p.m. The HRC phone number is (785) 623-2650.

Wednesday deadline

Rock your baby socks

Explore the world of music and movement with your child in this fast-paced class of singing, clapping, wiggling and shaking. Instruments, scarves, body motions and parachute play will keep babies, toddlers and adults moving, playing and interacting together. Entry fee: $5. Dates: Wednesdays, Aug. 7 to 21. Time: 10:45 to 11:15 a.m. Ages: 12 to 18 months with an adult. Location: HRC. Limitations: minimum five, maximum 10.

Pint-size paintings

Are you afraid to let your little ones paint and get messy at home? Let them have the experience with us. All activities are with edible supplies. Entry fee: $5. Dates: Thursdays, Aug. 8 to 22. Time: 10 to 10:30 a.m. Ages: 15 to 24 months with an adult. Location: HRC. Limitations: minimum five, maximum 10.

Mystery class

Doesn't your child love surprises? You won't know what fun you'll end up having in this mystery class. Will we be playing with scooters? Making crafts? Singing songs? Who knows. Be brave and come explore your options in this exciting new class. Entry fee: $10. Dates: Wednesdays, Aug. 7 to 28. Time: 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Ages: 2 to 3 with an adult. Location: HRC. Limitations: minimum five, maximum 10.

Superhero party

Children will gather together to make crafts such as capes and masks. We also will do various superhero relays, games, and activities. Entry fee: $8. Dates: Tuesdays, Aug. 6 to 27. Time: 1:30 to 2:15 p.m. Ages: 3 to 5. Location: HRC. Limitations: minimum five, maximum 12.

School's out

Come out for a day of fun. Each day we have a full schedule of games, trips, crafts, cooking and trips to Centennial Lanes, mini golf, area parks and Hays Aquatic Park. Space is limited. Entry fee: $10. Date: Aug. 7, "Beat the Heat." Time: 1 to 5 p.m. Ages: 6 to 12. Location: HRC. Limitations: minimum five, maximum 24.

Advanced knitting

Learn how to read patterns and make slippers. You will need to bring to class knitting needles and 4 ounces of yarn. Entry fee: $25. Date: Aug. 6 and 13. Time: 7 to 8:30 p.m. Ages: 10 to 15. Location: HRC. Limitations: minimum three, maximum six. Instructor: Deanna Newberry.

Kanine Kollege

Kanine Kollege will provide owners with information on traditional methods of socializing and training the family dog. Exercises taught during this six-week class include heel on leash, sit, come, down and stay. There is a possibility all of the exercises will not be covered depending on the progress of the class. Owners will be shown how to use positive reinforcement techniques to teach and enforce commands. Owners will be expected to work with their dogs between classes. The instructor will provide assistance to help teach owners how to train their dogs, not train the dogs for you. All owners must have vaccination records with them during the class. Entry fee: $25 per dog. Dates: Sundays, Aug. 4 to 25. Time: 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Ages: humans, 16 and older; dogs, 6 months and older. Location: HRC front parking lot. Limitations: minimum five dogs; maximum 10 dogs. Equipment needed: 4- to 6-foot leash and choke collar. Instructor: Johanna Musgrove.

Summer Slam Triathlon

Hays Recreation Commission, in conjunction with Sara Kay Carrell of Wild Within, and Papa Murphy's Take 'n' Bake Pizza, is proud to offer the fourth annual Summer Slam Triathlon. The event consists of a 400-meter swim, 12-mile bike ride and a 5K run/walk. All participants will receive a commemorative T-shirt. Prizes will be awarded to the winner of each division (divisions set based on registrations). Entry fee: $18; $22 entry fee after Wednesday. Date: Saturday. Time: Registration starts at 8:15 a.m. Event begins at 9 a.m. Location: Hays Aquatic Park.

iPad know hows

Do you have question about your iPad? After a simple setup, you will be communicating with others worldwide, reading books, looking at photos, searching the family tree, playing games or watching movies. With a few simple answers, you will understand it all. Entry fee: Free. Date: Friday. Time: 1 to 2 p.m. Ages: 55 and older. Location: HRC. Limitations: minimum five, maximum 15.
