Smith Center survives upset bid By The Hays Daily News
The Smith Center Redmen survived the upset bid from unbeaten Oakley on Friday night at Hubbard Stadium, scoring two second-half touchdowns to take a 33-20 victory over the Plainsmen in the Class 2-1A sub-state championship game.

Redmen senior Colt Rogers rushed for four touchdown, each from at least 50 yards out, and the Redmen broke a 20-20 halftime tie.

Oakley had a brief lead, taking a 20-13 advantage in the final two minutes of the first half, but Smith Center returned the ensuing kickoff for the score to tie the game heading into the halftime locker room.

Rogers finished with 290 rushing yards on 16 carries, helping push the Redmen's 11-man, nation-best winning streak to 79 games as the Redmen advance to next week's 2-1A championship game against Centralia at Hays' Lewis Field Stadium. Game time is 1 p.m.
