No bonfire, pep rally still on at HHS
By The Hays Daily News
Hays High School has announced the Hays Fire Department will not allow the Indians to light their homecoming bonfire tonight due to high winds.
Hays High still will host its class games at 7 p.m., followed by the pep rally at 7:45 in the totem pole area on the west of side of the high school. The bonfire will not be rescheduled.
HHS Assistant Principal Clint Albers said the process of building the bonfire had just begun when the school was notified the fire would not be lit. Shortly after, those donating pallets for the fire were asked to not bring them.
"We never have them deliver pallets until the morning of the bonfire,
just in case something like this happens, so we won't have all of them to
dispose of," Albers wrote in an email.
The only pallets on site were from the district's own inventory, and the maintenance staff already has disposed of them.
