Charles A. ‘Charlie’ Harkness
Charles A. “Charlie” Harkness, 61, died Thursday, April 3, 2014, after a five-year battle with cancer at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice.
He was a graduate of Thomas More Prep-Marian High School, Hays, and attended Fort Hays State University.
He worked in the auto parts industry for more than 39 years, most recently as a sales rep for TIFCO Industries.
He was an avid KU basketball fan and never missed March Madness. He enjoyed gardening, landscaping and photographing flowers and wildlife on the many miles traveled on his job.
Survivors include his wife, Donna; a brother, Bob, Lawrence; a sister, Diane Kowal and husband, Allan, Overland Park; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Catherine (Dreiling) Harkness; and a brother, John.
Services were Wednesday at Church of the Magdalen; additional services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 1805 Vine; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, Hays.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hays Memorial Chapel, 19th and Pine.
A vigil will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
