Donald Giebler

Donald Giebler, 59, Shakopee, Minn., died Monday, March 1, 2010, at his home after a lengthy battle with cancer.

He was born Jan. 20, 1951, in Hays, to Joseph and Mary (Sawazhki) Giebler. He attended Hays High School.

He married Kathryn Newell on Nov. 30, 1968, in Damar. He worked for several years in Russell for Red Tiger before accepting a position with Koch Industries on March 1, 1976, where he worked for 34 years.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; a son, Curt Giebler and wife, Jody, Olathe; a daughter, Katina England, Olathe; a brother, Leroy Giebler, Russell; three sisters, Clara Dreiling and Betty Gross, both of Hays, and Shirley Rohr, Flagstaff, Ariz.; a brother-in-law, Paschal Herman, Liebenthal; a sister-in-law, Joyce Peterman, Phoenix; three granddaughters, Nicole Weigel, Colby, and Emily Giebler and Kaitlyn Kilian, both of Olathe; a grandson, Konner Pontius, Olathe; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents, Jacob and Clara Giebler and John and Julia Sawazhki; two sisters, Anna Mae Herman and Linda Giebler; three brothers, John, Joey and Ronald Giebler; a brother-in-law, Kenny Gross; and a sister-in-law, Peggy Giebler.

Services were March 27 at Church of Christ, 29 N. Franklin, Russell; cremation has taken place.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice or American Cancer Society.
