OMAHA — The Hays Eagles Legion baseball team defeated La Cuerva (N.M.) Friday, 15-1 in five innings, on the second day of pool play at the Battle of Omaha, played at Fricke Field in Omaha, Neb.
Cole Schumacher earned the win for Hays, pitching four innings while allowing five hits, one run and striking out three.
A RBI single by Connor Rule to score Kaden Rohr got the Eagles on the board in the bottom of the first inning, a run that La Cuerva matched in the top of the second.
Hays opened the game up in the bottom of the second inning with six runs on four hits, half the runs coming on a three-RBI triple by Rule. Seven more runs were added in the bottom of the third by Hays, giving the Eagles a 14-1 lead after three innings.
A RBI groundout by Rule in the bottom of the fourth added one final run, and Rohr stepped in for Schumacher to get the final three outs in the fifth inning for the 15-1 win.
Rule finished with seven RBI, going 3 for 4 at the plate with two runs. Rohr led the team with three runs, going 3 for 3 with two RBI.
The Eagles will play their final two games of pool play on Saturday, beginning with the 115’s (Colo.) at 11:30 a.m. The second game will be against the Oklahoma City Bulls at 2 p.m.
