MIDWEST CITY, Okla. -- The Hays Eagles Legion baseball team finished 4-1 at the South Plains Classic, held at Rose State College in Midwest City, Okla., over the weekend.

The Eagles finished pool play 3-1 after a win over Tuttle (Okla.), 12-8, and loss to the Oklahoma Outlaws, 12-4, both on Friday.

Hays played one game Saturday before rain cancelled the remainder of the games, defeating Ada (Okla.), 8-0. Layne Downing earned the complete game (six innings) win for the Eagles, holding Ada to three hits and striking out seven batters. Downing, Marcus Altman, and Jake Sedbrook finished with two RBI each.

The Eagles, now 15-6, are scheduled to play at Great Bend on Tuesday and host Dodge City on Wednesday at Larks Park.
