Hays Eagles earn road sweep

PRATT — The Hays Legion baseball team picked up a pair of wins to close its regular season Wednesday.
The Eagles defeated the Pratt 86ers 10-1 in six innings in the opener, then 7-6 in the nightcap to move to 22-6 for the summer.
The Eagles were slated to play the Colorado Baseball Association 17s on Friday and Saturday, but those games were called off as Hays will start play in the Zone 7 Tournament on Tuesday. The Eagles are automatic qualifiers for the state tournament, which will take place in Hays in two weeks, but must play in the zone qualifier for seeding purposes.
In Wednesday's first game, Brady Bieker (3-6) pitched five innings for the victory, giving up one earned run on four Pratt hits. He walked two and struck out one. Chandler went 3 for 4, and Layne Downing, Kade Parker and Marcus Altman each had two hits. Parker and
John Griffith each drove in three runs. Chandler Rule and Downing each scored three runs. Hays led 4-0 after three innings, then scored six through the fifth and sixth innings.
In the nightcap, all the runs were scored through five innings. Hays took a 5-2 lead with a four-run third. Hayden Hutchison (double),
Rule and Parker all had RBIs in the inning. Pratt eventually tied the game with two runs each in the third and fourth innings, before Jake
Sedbrook flew out to right field to drive in the go-ahead sacrifice. Sedbrook had two RBIs in the game along with Hutchison. Parker finished 3 for 4 with an RBI, and Dan Bittel was 3 for 4 with a run scored. Clayton Basgall and Rule each scored twice.
Rule (2-2) picked up the win in two innings of relief of starter Cam Klaus. Downing pitched the final two innings for the save.
