SALINA -- The Hays Senior Legion baseball team's zone tournament ended with a loss Wednesday, but the second title game won't be played.
Rather than go back to Salina, the Eagles, who will host the Class AAA state championship next week, opted not to play after falling 8-6 in 12 innings to the Salina Falcons.
Both teams finished 2-1 and qualified for the state tournament, Salina by its win against Junction City in the elimination game earlier in the day.
In Wednesday's first title-round game, Hays battled back to tie the game in the ninth, but Salina rallied for four runs in the top of the 12th inning, before Hays (24-17) put up two more in a 12th-inning rally.
Salina had an error that lead to two unearned runs before Hays flew out to end it.
Marcus Altman took the loss for the Eagles, who will enter state at 24-17.
Chandler Rule finished 3 for 6 with a run scored, while five more Eagles had two hits.
Hayden Hutchison drove in two runs, going 2 for 4, while Kade Parker drove in a run, going 2 for 5. Clayton Basgall and Layne Downing each had a double. Basgall started the game, and pitched 5.1 innings. He gave up three earned runs on four hits with six strikeouts and five walks in the no-decision.
The state tournament begins Aug. 31 in Hays.
