Eagles' rally falls short

By The Hays Daily News

PITTSBURG -- The Hays Eagles Legion baseball team fell into a big hole early, and couldn't come back, falling for the first time Saturday in the Class AAA state tournament.

The Eagles (33-9) dropped an 11-5 decision to Pittsburg Post 64, the team they beat Friday to make the tourney final.

The two teams are even in the loss column, and will decide the state championship in today's 10 a.m. game.

The winner will be crowned the state champion, and advance to this week's National Region 4 tournament in North Little Rock, Ark. The Eagles have won the previous two state titles.

Marcus Altman took the loss Saturday after giving up a grand slam in the third inning that gave Pittsburg a 5-0 lead.
