Elmer Joseph Haselhorst
Elmer Joseph Haselhorst, 87, Longmont, Colo., died Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2013.
He was born in Vincent to Henry Haselhorst and Mary (Schrage) Haselhorst.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the USS Cabot and was at sea when the peace treaty was signed with Japan. He received Asiatic-Pacific Campaign and Victory medals.
He married Josephine Schmidt on Oct. 11, 1948, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Schoenchen.
They moved to Denver in 1956 and raised their family there. He retired from Gates Rubber Co. after 31 years, and the couple moved to Longmont in 1988.
He was a member of American Legion Post No. 32 and VFW Post No. 2601. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish from its inception, as well as a 68-year member of Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Arleen Mack and husband, Charlie, Longmont; a son, Alan Haselhorst and wife, Monika, Loveland, Colo.; a brother, Harold; two sisters, Dorothy and Frances; five grandchildren, Wesley (Patricia) Haselhorst, Bolivia, Gretchen (Thomas) Schulmeyer, Attleboro, Mass.; Justin (Janelle) Mack, Thornton, Colo.; Josef (Caroline) Mack, Fort Collins, Colo.; and Ahna Mack, Gunbarrel, Colo.; and five great-grandchildren, Paul, Lukas, Jonah, Mason and Lucy.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Josephine; three brothers, Ray, Norbert and Irvin; and four sisters, Emmy, Esther, Henrietta and Mary Jane.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Longmont; burial in Foothills Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., both at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, Longmont.
