Elsie Mavis Fairbanks Mallory

Elsie Mavis Fairbanks Mallory, 88, passed away on May 11, 2008. She was born Oct. 9, 1919 on the family farm near St. Clair; she was one of seven children to Edmund and Berta May Fairbanks. She grew up near Mayetta, attending the local schools and graduating from Mayetta Rural High School in 1936. After moving to Topeka as a young woman, Mavis (as know to friends and family) worked for the Topeka Chamber of Commerce. The opportunity presented itself for her and her sisters, Alice and Ruby to play professional basketball for the Page Mild Company in the Topeka - Kansas City area from a brief period. While in Topeka, Mavis met and Married Russell James Mallory in 1942, and enjoyed more than 50 years of life and love before his passing in the year 2000.

Mavis is and will continue to be the mother and guiding force for her children, Larry Russell and wife Mary Kay of Hutchinson, William Edmund and wife Mary of Sun Prairie WI., James Milton and wife Penny of Oro Valley Ariz., and Patricia Louise of Las Vegas NV. She made many lifelong friends while working as Executive Secretary at Martin and Coffelt Law Firm in Ellis, and again as an integral part of offices of Atlantic Richfield Oil Company in Tulsa Okla., from which she retired. Mavis was preceded in death by her parents, brother Gustave, sisters Olive and Ruby, and husband Russell: sister Alice Long and brothers Louis and Everett Fairbanks survive. She passed peacefully, leaving a standard of strength and character as legacy for her four children, their spouses, seven grandchildren, and twelve great grandchildren.
