Tiger baseball splits with UCO

EDMOND, Okla. -- The Fort Hays State University baseball team finished with a split in its MIAA series Friday and Saturday against the University of Central Oklahoma.
After a thrilling 21-19 Tiger victory Thursday, the teams split their doubleheader Friday. Central Oklahoma won Game 1, 2-1, then the Tigers picked up their own one-run win, 5-4 in the nightcap. On Saturday, UCO earned a 16-6 win to cap the series.
FHSU (12-20 overall, 10-18 MIAA) continues a 10-game road swing with a 5 p.m. single game Wednesday against Drury University in Springfield, Mo., then travels to Bolivar, Mo., Friday and Saturday for a four-game MIAA set with Southwest Baptist University.
UCO moved to 24-9, 19-9 in MIAA play.
In Friday's split, UCO won a pitchers' duel in Game 1 as Ricky Reeves outlasted the Tigers' Tyler Patty. Reeves took a no-hitter into the sixth inning before FHSU capitalized on an error, and Gus Strunk broke it up with a two-out RBI double that tied the game.
Patty made it into the sixth, but UCO got a pair of singles to go up 2-1.
In the 5-4 Tiger win, Austin Unrein (3-1) picked up the victory for FHSU, holding UCO scoreless for five innings.
On Saturday, Joe Mapes took the loss for the Tigers in just two innings. He allowed four runs (two earned) on five hits. Steven Federau (.2), Nathan Zimmerman (3.1) and Ty Thomas finished the game. UCO scored three runs in the first, one in the second, seven in the third, three in the sixth and two in the seventh to claim the win, collecting 14 hits with four FHSU errors.
James Denton was 2 for 3 with a home run for FHSU, and Kevin Czarnecki was 3 for 4 with two runs scored and RBI.
