Tiger volleyball picks up two wins Saturday

BELLEVILLE, Ill -- The Fort Hays State University volleyball team swept a pair of matches Saturday against Lindenwood-Belleville.
Fort Hays won 3-0 and 3-1 to improve to 8-14 for the season. LU-Belleville dropped to 14-14.
In the first match, Fort Hays won 25-18, 25-16, 25-14, then won 25-12, 25-23, 23-25, 25-20 in the second match.
In the first match, Tara Hoekman finished with 10 kills and hit .304, while Samantha Ledy and Rachel Szczepanksi each had six kills. Kelsey Broadwell had 24 assists and eight digs.
In the nightcap, Mallory Flagor had 17 kills for the Tigers and Libby Ary had 20 assists with 10 more from Raegen Vanderplas.
On Friday, the Tigers dropped a 3-1 match against MIAA member Lindenwood University, falling to 1-7 in MIAA play. Game scores were 25-23, 26-24, 21-25, 29-27. Lindenwood moved to 6-13 overall and 3-3 in MIAA play.
Sara Hewson and Madison Schwartz each had 13 kills with Jenna Ulrich recording seven blocks and 10 kills. Libby Ary recorded 28 assists and Raegen Vanderplas had 24.
The Tigers are at home Monday for a doubleheader with Friends University. The first match is slated for 5 p.m. at Gross Memorial Coliseum. It is also "Pass, Set, Pink Night" at GMC. Fans can wear pink and get in free. There will be a silent auction, 200 mini volleyballs and pink T-shirts for sale.
