FHSU women fall

OMAHA, Neb. -- The Fort Hays State University women's basketball team lost 77-47 in its exhibition opener Monday night against NCAA Division I Creighton University.
The game was the Tigers' lone exhibition game this season as they prepare for the season opener Nov. 13 at Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, Okla.
Katelyn Edwards led the Tigers' offense with 12 points. The Tigers hit just 30.9 percent of their shots, but Edwards finished 8 of 11 from the free throw line. Kate Lehman and Chelsea Mason added 11 points each, each shooting 50 percent from the floor. Edwards also pulled down a team-high seven rebounds. No other Tiger player scored more than four (Beth Bohuslavsky and Tera Ingalsbe).
The Tigers trailed just 26-19 at halftime, but Creighton exploded for 51 in the second half. Marissa Janning scored 21 points to lead the way .
FHSU was picked to finish fourth in the MIAA in the preseason coaches' poll, and recently were receiving votes in the WBCA preseason poll.
