Glenn Allen Lacy Glenn Allen Lacy, 48, Ellis, died Monday, April 7, 2014, at Hays Medical Center.
He was born Aug. 31, 1965, in Greenfield, Ind., to Marian (Ghumm) and Michael Lacy. He attended school in WaKeeney. He graduated from the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center in 1996.
He married Scottie Matteson on Nov. 2, 1985, in Ellis. He served in law enforcement for 20 years, including Plainville, Rooks County and Ellis. He received a meritorious service award from the city of Ellis and the Ellis Police Department in 2007. He recently was employed by Blick’s Phosphate Conversions, Garden City.
He was active in the communities he lived in, serving as a Boy Scout troop leader in Plainville and Ellis. He served on the Ellis County Fair Board and was a D.A.R.E officer. He was a member of Ellis United Methodist Church.
He enjoyed being outdoors cooking and camping and was a Dallas Cowboys fan. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; a son, Glenn Lacy Jr. and wife, Kristen, Marshfield, Mo.; two daughters, Laura Cooksey and husband, Ryan, Quinter, and Jessica Steele and husband, Jeremy, Hays; his mother, Marian Hanks, WaKeeney; his father, Michael Lacy and stepmother, Linda, Paoli, Ind.; two sisters, Tami Herskowitz and husband, Mark, WaKeeney, and Vonda Ackerman and husband, Bob, Ellis; a brother, Richard Hanks and wife, Jennifer, WaKeeney; five grandchildren, Cole Cooksey, Quinter, Jayden, Jaycee and Jesstyn Steele, all of Hays, and Tyler Crawford, Marshfield, Mo.; in-laws, Glynn “Skip” and Diana Matteson, Salina; a sister-in-law, Mary Beth Dodson and husband, Randy, Stockton, Mo.; and a brother-in-law, Lonnie Matteson and wife, Tami, Pottsboro, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, William and Rose Ghumm, Paul Lacy and Clara (Lacy) Brown; a brother-in-law, Mark Matteson; and a step-father, “Chubby” Hanks.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Ellis United Methodist Church; burial in Mount Hope Cemetery, Ellis.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Keithley Funeral Chapel, Ellis, and from 9 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the church.
