Herman advances at Kansas Amateur

KANSAS CITY -- Current Fort Hays State golfer and Hays High School alumnus Trey Herman advanced to the round of 32 at the 103rd Kansas Amateur Championship on Thursday at the Indian Hills Country Club in Mission Hills.
Herman, the top overall seed in the 64 player match play tournmaent, defeated Topeka native and current Kansas Golf Association President Gary Lucas 3 and 2. Herman won four of the first eight holes to take a three-hole lead on Lucas and put it away with a shared par on the 16th hole.
Herman was set to play Clarke Fry of Kansas City, Kan., this morning in the round of 32. The winner plays again in the round of 16 this afternoon for a spot in Saturday's quarterfinal.
