HHS baseball honored by WAC

Six Hays High School baseball players were honored by the Western Athletic Conference.
Seniors Hayden Hutchison and Chandler Rule, and junior Logan Downing were named to the all-WAC first-team while seniors Dan Bittel and Chance Pitcock , and junior Kade Parker earned honorable mention nods.
For the second straight season, Hutchison also was named the WAC Player of the Year.
Hutchison, a Neosho County Community College signee, set a new season record for batting average for the Indians, hitting .589 and also holds the career doubles record for HHS and the state with 41. He scored 26 runs in 2013, hit three home runs and drove in 24.
On the mound, Hutchison had a 0.57 ERA, allowing just three earned runs in 47 innings.
Rule, who signed with Fort Hays State University, batted .379 with 18 runs scored, eight doubles and two homers.
Downing, while pitching a complete-game no-hitter against Liberal, finished 2-1 with a 1.37 ERA. He batted .338 with 25 RBI, 13 runs scored, five doubles, two triples and three homers.
Randy Beck, the head coach of Great Bend, was named the top coach. Great Bend and Hays High shared the WAC title this season.
