McPHERSON -- The Hays High School girls' soccer team didn't have trouble in its first-round match of the McPherson Invitational.
The Indians defeated Augusta 5-0 and didn't allow a single shot on goal. Hays High finished with 28 shots on goal.
Hays High improved to 2-0 and will face Newton in the next round.
"They have a very strong defensive back line, and their goalkeeper is outstanding," said Hays High coach Chris Michaelis. "It will be a whole different ball game on Thursday without a doubt."
It was definitely a team effort, as no one finished with more than one goal or one assist. Shelby Dinkel, Lacey Pfannenstiel, Michelle Linville, Taylor Herman and Megan Bird all scored in the match, and April Johnson, Sarah Rooney and Ali Romme finished with an assist apiece.
"It was a fun day," Michaelis said. "Anytime you can win and knock a few in the back, it's a fun day."
