HHS soccer wins in first round

McPHERSON -- The Hays High School girls' soccer team defeated Topeka High School 3-1 on Tuesday in the first round of the McPherson Invitational.

Freshman Talyn Kleweno gave the Indians a 1-0 advantage with her goal in the 20th minute, assisted by senior Wendy Zimmerman. Kleweno gave back by assisting senior Rachel Luedders with her goal in the 48th minute and with Zimmerman's goal in the 61st minute.

Topeka got on the board with a goal in the 73rd minute. Hays High (2-0) will face off against Maize South at 6 p.m. Friday in the tournament semifinals in McPherson.
