Weigel, Meyers place for HHS at Rock Welton

GARDEN CITY -- Two Hays High School wrestlers placed Saturday at Garden City High School's Rocky Welton Invitational.

Junior Preston Weigel, 38-0 and ranked No. 1 in Class 5A, was the champion of the 195-pound weight class, and senior Kyler Meyers finished fourth in the 170-pound weight class.

Weigel won his first two matches by pin and his semifinal match by tech fall before securing a 2-0 decision in the championship against Newton senior Dillon Archer, ranked No. 2 in Class 5A.

Meyers, ranked No. 4 in Class 5A, finished 4-2 with his two losses to the No. 2- and No. 3-ranked wrestlers in 5A -- St. James Academy junior Trent Salsbury and Newton sophomore Jared Langley.

As a team, Hays High finished 16th with 69.5 points. Ark City won the tournament with 200 points.
