HaysMed cancer program will be April 26

Hays Medical Center will sponsor a Cancer Symposium on April 26. The program will be at the Hadley Conference Room 2 at HaysMed, 2220 Canterbury. The program is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m.

Speakers for the program include Joshua Mammen, MD, PhD, FACS; Evelyn Reynolds, MD; and Gary C. Doolittle, MD, all with the University of Kansas Cancer Center; Babu Prasad, MD and January Fields, MD, both with the Dreiling/Schmidt Cancer Institute.

Topics to be covered include surgical management strategies for auxillary lymph nodes in patients with breast cancer in the era of effective adjuvant treatment; personalized treatment of metastatic breast cancer to supraclavicular lymph nodes; updates in gynecological cancers; biology and development of malignant melanoma; standard treatments for malignant melanoma; epidemiology and incidence of breast cancer, death rates; role of radiation therapy in breast cancer management; toxicities of treatment and also contraindications for radiation; AABB guidelines published July 3; risks of RBC transfusion in addition to infective risks; and transfusion reaction workup.

The program is designed for registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, ARNPs, respiratory therapists, social workers, PTs, OTs, physician, physician assistants and other interested health care professionals.

Fee for the program is $50 for non HaysMed employees, $25 for HaysMed, Critical Access Hospital and Pawnee Valley Community Hospital employees.

A light meal is included in the registration.
