HRC office hours
The HRC office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, except for Wednesdays, when the office is open until 6 p.m. The HRC phone number is (785) 623-2650.
Fall/winter open gym hours
8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Friday
8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday
9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday
1 to 5 p.m. Sunday
HRC programs take priority over open gym time. A gym schedule is updated weekly and is available each Friday in the office or on the Web page.
Book orders due soon
As part of the Baby and Tiny TAS program, we will be offering Scholastic Book Club books for age's toddler to kindergarten. Here is your chance to build your home library with quality books at reasonable prices. Stop by the Recreation Center to pick up your order forms.
Book ordes and money are due no later than Oct. 22. Make checks payable to Scholastic Book Club.

We need trunks
We have a great way to showcase your business or organization and have a great time doing it, Trunk Or Treat. Decorate your trunk (trunk of a car, back of a van or pickup, etc.) and hand out goodies (promo items, candy, flyers, etc.) to the trunk-or-treaters and have a great time. When: Saturday, Oct. 24th. Time: Set up from 5:30 to 6:30. Trunk or Treating: 6:30 to 8 p.m.. Prizes: Prize money will be awarded. Deadline: Oct. 21 for decorated vehicles.

Loving touch infant massage
Have you ever wondered what infant massage is? Have you overheard a friend talking about infant massage? Would you like to learn how to massage your own child or children? Through this program, you will be bonding with your child while stroking the muscles of an infant using a variety of specialized massage techniques. This class is taught by Gail Wickham, certified infant massage instructor. To set up a time that works for you and your child, contact her at (785) 623-2650 or for more information contact the HRC. Entry fee: $15. Date: Call to schedule an appointment. Time: 5- to 45-minute classes. Ages: Birth to 2-year-olds, with an adult. Location: Recreation Center.
Story time yoga
Telling the story as part of a yoga class and acting it out with yoga poses is a great way for children to use their imagination which is sometimes lost in our life. Each month we will read a story and finish with a yoga practice using the animals or object from the story. What a great way to introduce your child to both. Entry fee: $2. Date: Oct. 19. Times: 10:15 to 11 a.m. Ages: 3 to 5. Location: Recreation Center. Limitations: minimum 5, maximum 12.
Actively 55 Club
Monday night pinochle
All you have to do is show up for a great night of Pinochle. Bring your own partner or come alone and pair up with someone. We will meet each Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hays Recreation Center in the Marcy Allenbaugh Conference Room. Dillons of Hays will provide the pop, and Alterra Sterling House will provide the popcorn. The HRC will provide the cards and other supplies. You supply the fun. This program is open to anyone age 18 and older. The program is free of charge, although donations will be accepted for supplies each night.
Treasures in Ellsworth trip
Come with us to a full day of activities in Ellsworth. We will start the day at Ellsworth Prison. On this trip, we will view the prison yard, cells and learn what the prisoners do on a daily base. We also will view the CARES Program (Canine Assistance Rehabilitation Education and Services). After a three-hour tour, we will travel to the Antique Mall for lunch. Take advantage of the antiques on the main floor, but don't forget about the mysterious underground area that once housed stores and a bowling alley. We will finish off the day at the Hodgden House Museum. The day is a full day with walking involved, so wear your comfortable shoes. Your lunch is not included. Entrey deadline: Wednesday. Entry fee: $10. Date: Friday. Time: 7:45 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Ages: 55 and older. Depart from Recreation Center. Limitations: minimum five, maximum 15.
Adult leisure and wellness
Zumba
Zumba is a fusion of Latin and pop with a mix of favorite dance themes creating a dynamic, exciting, effective fitness system. The routines feature aerobic/fitness interval training with a combination of fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body. This will give you the opportunity to learn various dance steps to the salsa, meringue, flamenco and many more, all choreographed into a fun workout. Entry fee: $2 per class or $15 for a punch card (10 lessons). Dates: Tuesdays and Thursdays. Times: 6:35 to 7:25 p.m. Ages: 16 and older. Location: Recreation Center.
Exercise of life
This will be a presentation on the importance of exercising. It will discuss the benefits of living an active lifestyle. The presentation will give you ideas of how to improve your lifestyle to make a healthier you. Come see how you can easily live a healthier life. Entry deadline: Wednesday. Entry fee: $2. Date: Oct. 21. Time: 6:30 p.m. Location: Recreation Center.
