Harold Wesley Vine
Harold Wesley Vine, 91 Ellis, died Monday, May 5, 2014, at Via Christi Village, Hays.
He was born Nov. 23, 1922, in Hays to Herbert Wesley and Ortha Ester (Hinkel) Vine.
He married Waunetta Helen Turner on Oct. 30, 1942, in Ellis. She preceded him in death in 2008. He was a farmer and merchant most of his working life, working his own farm and Harold's Men's Wear. He later started Harold's refinishing. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving with the Counter Intelligence Corp.
He was a member of St. Andrew Church, a charter member of High Plains Long Rifle Club and was active in Ellis community organizations.
He was well-known for his story-telling and willingness to visit with family and friends.
Survivors include three daughters, Teresa Karlin and husband, Norbert, Hays, Barbara Augustine and husband, Kenneth, Grove, Okla., and Shyrell Haas and husband, Jim, Hays; two sons, Denis Vine and Mary Lou McDonald, and Kevin Vine and wife, Patricia, all of Ellis; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; a step great-grandson; and five great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two grandchildren, Taryn Haas and Nancy Karlin.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Andrew Church, 2424 Hyacinth Ave., Hays; inurment in Mount Hope Cemetery, Ellis, with military honors by Ellis VFW.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with family present, at Keithley Funeral Chapel, 400 E. 17th, Ellis, KS 67637.
A prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to St. Andrew Church in care of the funeral home.
