Hillon David Steeples
Hillon David Steeples, 86, Hays, died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, at his home.
He was born Aug. 2, 1926, in Hays to Chester F.D. and Olive (Kobler) Steeples. He was a graduate of Kansas State University.
He married Ramona (Dodd) on Dec. 27, 1947, in Hill City. She preceded him in death June 20, 2002. He later married Sonja (Scranton) Kobler on Dec. 12, 2003, in Hays. He was a farmer and rancher in the Palco area, where the homesteaded family farm dates back to the 1800s. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in Pearl Harbor and Japan during World War II.
He served on the state level of the Kansas Farm Bureau Board of Directors for 17 years and on the Plainville Rural Hospital Board. He moved to Hays in the summer of 1985, was a member of Shriners International and attended First Presbyterian Church, Hays.
Survivors include his wife, Sonja Steeples, of the home; two sons, Jim Steeples and wife, Connie, Denver, and Dan Steeples, Falls Church, Va.; a daughter, Judy Alston and husband Joe, Prescott, Ariz.; a brother, Duane Steeples and wife, Carol, Zurich; a sister, Drs. Donna and husband, Richard Childs, Fairway; four grandchildren, Dana Steeples, Denver, Kellie Camilli and husband, Lou, Las Cruces, N.M.; Thomas Alston, Tucson, Ariz., and David Alston, Portland, Ore.; a great-grandson, Benjamin Camilli; and Sonja's children, Kobie Kobler and wife, Angelique, Lawrence and Tyler Kobler and wife, Brenda, Wichita.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, at First Presbyterian Church, 2900 Hall Street; private family inurnment in Mount Allen Cemetery, Hays.
Family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to Fort Hays Shrine Club to be used for the Shrines Hospital for Children or First Presbyterian Church.
