Joseph C. 'Joe' Herrman

Joseph C. "Joe" Herrman, 87, La Crosse, died Monday, March 15, 2010, at Rush County Nursing Home, La Crosse.

He was born June 4, 1922, in rural La Crosse to William J. and Clara (Legleiter) Herrman. He was a 1940 graduate of La Crosse High School.

He married Irene Werth. He later married Bonnie R. Wallace on April 12, 1963, in Colorado. She preceded him in death March 28, 2008. While living in La Crosse, he owned and operated the Dairie Delite, the Vets Club, and later the Corner Grill Restaurant. After moving from Rush County in the 1960s, he owned and operated a car dealership and was in sales until his retirement. In 2004, he moved back to Rush County from Kansas City, Kan., and owned 4 Corner Liquor Store in Rush Center until September 2007. He was a U.S. Navy veteranm serving as a First Class Radioman during World War II from October 1942 to November 1945.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include three daughters, Joy Marie Werth, Great Bend, Connie Sue Sterrett, Lenexa, and Deb Jo Woolen, Hutchinson; a brother, Emanuel J. Herrman, Dodge City; two sisters, Martina Leiker, Hutchinson, and Mary Ann Petrik, Rush Center; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William J. and Clara (Legleiter) Herrman; a grandson, Tracy Georg; and three brothers, Patrick L. Herrman, Harold I. Herrman and Ernest L. Herrman.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Michael Catholic Church; burial in Otis Methodist Cemetery.

A rosary will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the church.
