TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) -- The Democratic leader in the Kansas House is likely to face questions about his party's misconduct complaint against its Republican speaker.
Minority Leader Paul Davis, a Lawrence Democrat, was set to be the first witness Thursday for a special committee investigating Speaker Mike O'Neal, a Hutchinson Republican.
Davis and five other House Democrats filed a complaint against O'Neal because, as an attorney, O'Neal is representing businesses, trade groups and insurance funds in a lawsuit against the state.
The committee declined Wednesday to dismiss the complaint. O'Neal will be asked to testify next week.
The speaker says he has broken no laws or ethics rules. Democrats contend he has conflicts of interest because of his clients in the lawsuit.
