Kathleen J. 'Katie' Leikam
Kathleen J. "Katie" Leikam, 88, Salina, died Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2013, at Salina Regional Health Center.
She was born June 12, 1925, in Marysville to Mabel R. (Cooper) and Henry A. Marquardt.
She married Joseph L. Leikam in 1941 in Marysville. He preceded her in death. She was a telephone service assistant for Southwestern Bell Telephone. She retired after 23 years of service. She worked in offices in Hays, Salina, Concordia and Wichita. Following her retirement, she worked as a cashier at St. John's Hospital for 17 years. Then she worked for Market Aid in Salina.
She was a member of Southwestern Bell Telephone Pioneers. She enjoyed gardening and took great pride in her flowers.
Survivors include her companion, Don Blaker, Topeka; three sons, Don Leikam, Joe Leikam and wife, Barbara, and Bill Leikam and companion, Jaci Gottschalk, all of Hays; two daughters, Jean Koerner, Hays, and Kathy J. Creighton and companion, Dennis Hackett, Stockton; three brothers, Don Marquardt and wife, Mary Lou, Marysville, Gary Marquardt and wife, MaryAnn, and Roger Marquardt, all of Kansas City, Kan.; three sisters, Maxine Farrell, Beatrice, Neb., Marilyn Anderson, Blue Springs, Mo., and Joan Rossetti, Wheatridge, Colo.; 12 grandchildren, Kim Dechant and husband, Jeff, Hays, Sandy Linenberger and husband, David, Salina, Jackie Ruder and husband, Chad, Hays, Lori Lebert and husband, Rod, Douglas, Wyo., Leah Rhoades and husband, Chris, Hays, Shelly Gonzalez and husband, Albert, Theresa, N.Y., McKenzie Myers and husband, Emery, Salina, Joe Leikam III, Salina, Bill Leikam and wife, Katie, Victoria, Mike Leikam and wife, Kelly, Gypsum, Colo., Jason Creighton and wife, Rebecca, and Justin Creighton and wife, Fielzah, all of Stockton; 32 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Evelyn Schmidt and Helen Scott; a son-in-law, Arlen F. Koerner; a daughter-in-law, Shirley Leikam; a grandson, Brent Leikam; a great-granddaughter, Jannah Creighton; and a great-grandson, Bryden Leikam.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays; burial in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, with family greeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Carlson-Geisendorf Funeral Home, Salina.
A rosary and viewing will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.
