I had several letters published by the paper some time ago about this abomination that recently celebrated its third year. Some celebration? Calling it the Affordable Care Act has become a joke. It's unaffordable.
For the sake of discussion, what would the defense be of those in Congress who voted for it, if taken to court? A good lawyer would have the defendant plead insanity. The way this law was legislated one could make a good case they should all be taken to court, sent to jail and throw away the keys.
Affordable? The premium costs to individuals were supposed to go down, but will go up by a good amount instead. Overall, health care costs for OC nationally were supposed to go down, but instead will add over a trillion to our national debt according to the government's Congressional Budget Office. It's insane to think another entitlement program will save this country money.
Where do we get the money for over 100 new agencies to administer OC? What about more than 15,000 new IRS agents to make sure we pay up who will get salaries in six figures? There will be thousands of other new workers making good money just to help us fill out a 15-page questionnaire. The implementation alone will be in the billions, far and away above projected costs. Just maybe, the implementation of this monstrosity alone could be the deciding factor putting us over the cliff to bankruptcy. What! Over 20,000 pages of new regulations and many more to come!
Again, for the sake of discussion, if our legislators were taken to court, the case would go something like this: "Your honor, says the attorney, it's not my client's fault. He did not have time to study the 2,700 pages of the law given to him at the last minute, therefore, his leader instructed him to just pass it, than we can see what's in it. My client is innocent, we blame the Speaker Nancy Pelosi!" Yup readers, this law is now wreaking havoc not seen in any other kind of legislation in our history. It's like a tsunami with more unintended consequences than can be counted. As we speak, the things just now coming to light out of this boondoggle are mind-boggling.
America needs jobs. OC is a job killer. The law calls for extra costs to a business with 50 or more "full time" employees. Not only will businesses refuse to hire over 49 workers, many will lay off workers to get below 50 and many will make their employees part timers. Add to that, businesses will drop employee health care insurance for their workers and pay a less costly penalty instead. Since the law requires everybody have insurance, workers will need to go to state exchanges and that is a nightmare in itself since many states have refused to set up those exchanges.
The saddest part of this "gargantuan" is that our once good health care system (the best in the world) will be far worse. Most doctors hate what is coming down the road in 2014 thus plan to retire. We're short doctors as is.
Oh yes, my senior compatriots, there will be "death panels." Even Paul Krugman, ultra-liberal Democrat, Obama supporter and New York Times columnist, said they are necessary in this law. Our meeting as seniors with St. Peter, won't be decided by our doctors, but our government.
Is there anything good in OC? Well, I would sure hope so, but for every good thing there are 10, 20, 30 negatives.
