Time to wake up
Time to wake up
When is enough enough before we finally wake up as a society?
A new movie is set for release Dec. 25 titled "Nymphomaniac," the date of release can be no coincidence, which will depict couples having sex. No, not simulated sex -- actual sex acts.
This is not some little back-alley film; this is a major production starring Uma Thurman, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Stellan Skarsgard, Shia LaBeouf, Jamie Bell, Christian Slater and Connie Nielsen.
To voice a negative opinion of this film will no doubt be written off to being politically incorrect, and God forbid we be politically incorrect. Well paint me politically incorrect, please. This is not art; this is porn, pure and simple.
Anyone who knows me will attest to the fact I am not biased against anyone because of their race, gender, sexual preference, political beliefs, their religion or lack thereof, but I will freely admit to having a very strong bias of ignorance and lack of morals.
We now live in a society that has become so decadent and so self-absorbed that unless we make major changes and do so with the utmost haste, we are guaranteed to witness our own destruction and far sooner than anyone is apparently willing to admit.
We locked ourselves away in our homes. Know our neighbors? Of course not. We cannot be bothered. A neighbor telling us that our children are misbehaving? How dare they.
Then we took away competition. Poor little Johnnie or Jill can't be held back in school, it might scar them for life and Heaven forbid they lose a ball game; the damage done from this will be irreparable. But, we will gladly provide them with games where the more people they can murder the higher the score they will achieve.
Then we took away not only a parent's right and power to discipline their children, but we also took away a teacher's ability to not only discipline a child, but also their ability to give a hurting child a hug.
Art, music and physical education in school? Oh there is no need for that after all it might jeopardize the football program. Provide each student with their own books? Ridiculous. Paying the superintendent an exorbitant salary is so much more important. Requiring parents to buy workbooks so that your child can do his or her homework? Outrageous. You had the kid; it is not your responsibility to support them too.
You want something? Well just charge it. Pay the bill? Of course not. It will be written off in just a few years and after all it is not our fault if you had to go to the movies, or out to dinner or wear the latest over priced fashion rather than pay your bills.
Open a business? Sure. The government will be happy to tell you how to run it.
Of course, all this was not enough. Now our elected officials passed a health care system with no money to pay for it and that only the very rich or the very poor or illegal can take advantage of it or can afford it. This is such a wonderful new system; it tells us what health care we need, since we are too ignorant to know that ourselves, and if you are over 60 you don't need any way since you should hurry up and die and get out of the way. After all seniors still remember how it used to be and might actually find a way to get through to the young that all this is not right and will lead to our certain destruction.
Get "married"? Sure. Anyone can. Same sex? No worries, you can "marry" too. I am the first to say that same sex couples can and do raise happy healthy children and should have legal protection under the law and in fact should have the ability to have "legal unions," but "marry," no -- there I draw the line.
Our government actually provide protection for our diplomats? Only when it is convenient. Answer for their inaction? Don't be ridiculous. It is no big deal after all. Just because our citizens who were serving their country were raped and butchered those in charge should not be held accountable; they had a headache and the flu and needed to rest.
Speak out against our government? How dare you. The government will sic the IRS on you and do everything in its power to not only discredit you, but to destroy you.
No money to pay for all this? Not a worry. Just raise taxes or encourage gambling. It is not the elected officials fault if no one can afford the taxes or becomes addicted to gambling. Besides, these are all such wonderful things they made it a point to exempt themselves from these same programs.
To me all this is unacceptable, but then I am one of those crazy people who pay their taxes and their bills, served my country and still honor those who died to create the land of the free. "Land of the free," I didn't know that also meant land of the freeloaders and the ignorant.
This Memorial Day I not only grieved for those who gave their lives in defense of this country, but also the demise of everything this once great nation stood for.
Just sign me a once proud American, but now sad American.
