Logan set for Labor Day Celebration
Special to The Hays Daily News
LOGAN -- The 37th annual Logan Labor Day Celebration, sponsored by the Dane G. Hansen Memorial Museum and Dane G. Hansen Foundation, will be Sept. 1 at Logan Golf Course with a full day of activities. Admission is free.
The Logan Labor Day Celebration begins with a Logan Chamber of Commerce-sponsored remote fly-in and 9 a.m. sand volleyball tournament. The chamber food booth will open at 8 a.m., and the Sno-Cone Shack will begin serving at 10a.m. Main Street Pizza also will be serving slices.
Vehicles will roll in for the Dane G. Bales Junior Memorial Car Show, which is 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
A shuttle will transport visitors from the golf course to the museum to view the exhibit, "Cast Paper Sculptures."
The Siruta Pedal Pullers State Sanctioned Kid's Tractor Pull starts at 2 p.m., and children's entertainment during the day includes King of the Mountain 18-foot slide and castle bouncer and the RTS Express train. Scout groups also will conduct children's activities throughout the day.
The Prairie Dusters Mounted Drill Team from the Logan area will offer horse rides at 3 p.m. and, at 4:30 p.m., will demonstrate precision drill routines.
Appearing on stage at 5:30 p.m. will be the "Dueling Pianos," a group of musicians from Denver that features crowd interaction, comedy and fun. Request your favorite song, because the crowd determines what is played. No two shows are the same. Caz Bzdek and Paul Seiz will perform the entire show on portable baby grand piano replicas.
At 6:30 p.m., there will be free tethered hot air balloon rides for family enjoyment, weather permitting.
At 7:30 p.m., Jimmy Dee and The Fabulous Destinations -- one of the most popular groups in western Kansas -- will perform hits from the early 1960s.
When the sun sets, a laser light show will light up the sky around the golf course.
