Larks win sixth straight

DODGE CITY -- The Hays Larks won their sixth straight game, and their 10th in the last 11, defeating Dodge City, 8-4, on Monday night at Cavalier Field.
The Larks got a big boost out of the gate from Zair Koeiman. He hit a three-run home run as part of the Larks' four-run first inning, giving a cushion to starter David Koll (5-1), who picked up the win in five innings pitched.
Larks' newcomer Brooks Balisterri finished 2 for 4 and scored a run. Hays (26-13 overall, 20-13 Jayhawk League) scored two more in the second inning, then posted two in the seventh. The Larks had a 8-1 lead heading into the ninth, before D.J. Carr allowed three earned runs, including a two-run homer with two outs. Carr got a groundout, though, to end the game.
Ty Detmer, Evan Gruener and Matt Leuty each drove in a run for the Larks. Dodge City dropped to 16-21 overall and 8-21 in last place in the league.
The Larks play host to Junction City in non-league action at 7 p.m. today, part of host family night at Larks Park.
