Legion goes 1-2 in Nebraska

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. — The Hays Senior Legion Eagle baseball team finished 1-2 during the weekend in tournament action in North Platte, Neb.
The Eagles had one game cancelled Saturday because of weather.
On Saturday, Hays (5-6) fell 4-3 to North Platte, then split its games Sunday against Gering, Neb. and J.C. Brager. The Eagles defeated Gering, 4-0, and lost to J.C. Brager, 10-9.
Hays will host Great Bend in its first home action in two weeks Tuesday at Larks Park. Start time for the doubleheader is 6 p.m.
In Saturday’s loss to North Platte, Hays took tied the game at three in the seventh, before surrending the game-winning run in the bottom half. Brady Bieker took the loss in 1.2 innings. He gave up one run on two hits. North Platte received a two-out double and an
Eagle error, then scored the winning run on another Hays error. Hayden Hutchison drove in a run and was 2 of 3 hitting. Cameron Klaus also had a pair of hits.
In the win Sunday, Chandler Rule was 2 for 4 and Marcus Altman drove in a pair of runs, helping the cause in his complete game on the mound. Altman gave up no runs on four hits with three strikeouts and two walks.
In the Sunday loss, Hays gave up eight runs to J.C. Brager in the sixth inning after taking an 8-2 lead. Klaus gave up the eight runs to take the loss in relief of Layne Downing.
Clayton Basgall drove in four runs to help build the lead. He went 2 of 3 with a run scored. He and Downing both had home runs and Basgall added a bases-clearing triple.
