Eagles open Omaha tourney with win By The Hays Daily News

OMAHA, Neb. — The Hays Senior Legion Eagles baseball team opened play Thursday in the Omaha Tournament with a 13-3, 5-inning victory against Anchorage, Alaska.

The Eagles scored four runs in the first, third and fifth innings, and one in the second on 12 total hits, but did have four errors.

Hayden Hutchison picked up the victory in five innings pitched. He gave up all three Anchorage runs (one earned) with seven strikeouts.

Offensively, Hutchison was 2 for 4 with three RBIs.

John Griffith had a good day, going 2 for 3 with a run scored and three RBIS. Griffith drove in his three runs with a bases-clearing triple in the first inning.

Chandler Rule also drove in a pair of runs, and Clayton Basgall finished 3 for 4 in the leadoff spot with three runs scored.
Hays (9-9) is scheduled for two games Friday. The Eagles will play Northfield at 3:30 p.m., then Omaha Benson at 6 p.m.
