Eagles rained out in final day of tourney

OMAHA, Neb. -- The Hays Senior Legion baseball team was rained out of its Sunday games in the Omaha, Neb., tournament, and opted to come home rather than spend another night.
The Eagles finished 3-1 in the tourney after splitting their Saturday contests with Oklahoma City and Omaha Burke.
Hays returns home for a 6 p.m. doubleheader Tuesday against Dodge City at HHS Field.
On Saturday, Hays (11-10) lost 10-7 to the Oklahoma City Bulls then defeated Omaha Burke, 10-2 in five innings.
The Eagles were scheduled to play in Sunday's 10:30 a.m. quarterfinal game before the day was rained out.
Against Oklahoma City, the Eagles had a 5-0 lead, but allowed 10 runs through the fourth, fifth and sixth innings, before putting up two runs in the seventh-inning rally attempt. Kade Parker was hurt for all 10 runs (five earned) in the start. He gave up 11 hits and
Hays had five errors. Brady Bieker pitched one inning of relief.
The Bulls' run started with a solo home run in the fourth inning.
Hayden Hutchison had a first-inning home run for the Eagles and finished the game 2 for 4 with three RBIs and a two runs scored.
Clayton Basgall and Dan Bittel each had two hits, and Chandler Rule finished 3 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI.
In the win against Omaha Burke, the Eagle scored six runs in the fifth to set the run-rule, and the win for Layne Downing. Downing pitched all five innings, allowing two runs (none earned) on five hits.
In the big fifth, Marcus Altman had a two-run home run after a double by Downing and an RBI single by John Griffith. Bittel also had an RBI double and Hutchison drove in two runs with a single for the final two runs.
Bittel was hot, going 3 for 3 with two runs scored, while Hutchison was 2 for 2 with three RBIs. The top eight batters in the Hays lineup each had a hit. Griffith and Altman each drove in a pair of runs.
