Monarchs' season comes to an end

LARNED -- The Hays Monarchs Legion baseball team's season came to an end in the Class AA Zone tournament Monday.
The Monarchs fell 5-4 to Hoisington, and ended the season with back-to-back losses.
Hays (17-7) fell down 5-1 after three innings, but fell just short in a rally attempt. The Monarchs scored two in the fourth and one in the sixth.
Liam Stults (6-2) took the loss in three innings. He gave up five runs (four earned) on six hits with two strikeouts and a walk. Hoisington scored one in the first and four in the third. Kameron Schmidt pitched the other three innings.
Justin Pfeifer had a good day offensively. He finished 2 for 3 with a triple, and drove in all four Hays runs. Schmidt was 3 for 3 with two runs scored. Jordan Gottschalk was 3 for 4 with a double.
