Nettie Alverna (Kittle) Ochs Deines Humburg
Nettie Alverna (Kittle) Ochs Deines Humburg, 92, Caldwell, formerly of Otis, WaKeeney and La Crosse, died Saturday, May 11, 2013, at Anthony Community Care Center, Anthony, after a brief battle with cancer.
She was born May 23, 1920, in rural Alexander to John R. and Olive (Buzzard) Kittle. She was a 1939 graduate of Alexander High School.
She married Floyd Edward Ochs on Sept. 1, 1940, in Otis. He preceded her in death March 3, 1962. She later married Herbert Deines on July 13, 1963, in Otis. He preceded her in death Dec. 27, 1983. She later married Russell "Bus" Humburg on June 4, 1993, in WaKeeney. He preceded her in death July 10, 1996. In March 2011, she moved to Caldwell to the Phoenix House, an assisted-living residence. She was a Sunday school teacher and a homemaker.
She was a member of the WELCA.
She enjoyed spending time with family and taking care of grandchildren. She enjoyed needlework, sewing and making quilts for all the grandchildren.
Survivors include two sons, J. Dean Ochs and companion, Edith Misak, Caldwell, and Neal E. Ochs and wife, Pat, Villa Rica, Ga.; a brother, Dean Kittle, Garnett; a sister, Roberta Wierman, and husband, Francis, McCracken; a sister-in-law, Eula Kittle, Liberal; six stepchildren, Don Deines and wife, Vera, Hays, Jim Deines and wife, Linda, Hill City, Merlin Deines and wife, Barbara, WaKeeney, Lanetta Kellogg and husband, Everet, Hastings, Neb., Deloris Romeiser and husband, Ken, Bison, and Tom Humburg and wife, Carolyn, Great Bend; two stepdaughters-in-law, Liza Deines, Lee's Summit, Mo., and Tommie Humburg, Wilburton, Okla.; a stepson-in-law, Don Mai and wife, Shirley, WaKeeney; 32 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Freddie Kittle; a sister-in-law, Bernice Kittle; two stepsons, Leroy Deines and Fred Humburg; a stepdaughter, Vicki (Deines) Mai; a great-grandson, Craig Casper and her companion, Kenneth Brack.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church, La Crosse; burial in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Otis.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with family receiving friends from 6 to 7 p.m. at Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse, and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
A prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to First Lutheran Church, La Crosse, or Trinity Lutheran Church, Otis, in care of the funeral home.
