2-1A playoffs - Smith Center rolls by Sterling

SMITH CENTER -- The Smith Center High School football ousted from the playoffs the same team that ended the Redmen season a year ago in former coach Roger Barta's final game.
The Redmen had a big second quarter and delivered a 47-0 victory Friday night in the first round of the Class 2-1A state playoffs against Sterling.
Smith Center jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first quarter on a 11-yard score from Grant Lambert, then Nick Lehmkuhl scored three second-quarter TDS from 4, 8, and 8 yards to put Smith Center up 27-0 by halftime.
The Redmen defense contained Sterling (4-6) to 111 yards of offense with no pass completions and had two interceptions.
Clint Rogers finished with 11 carries for 178 yards and a second-half score in the Redmen run game. Lehmkuhl had 17 carries for 70 yards and scored four times. Kody Molzahn completed 5 of 10 passes for 83 yards and a score.
The win sets up a date next Friday with defending state champion Meade in Meade at 6 p.m. Meade (9-1) made short work of visiting Oberlin-Decature Community, 49-14, on Friday. The Red Devils, in their second straight trip to the postseason, dropped to 5-5 for the year.
