Former FHSU instructor receives doctorate
(pic) Phillip R. Sechtem, Ph.D., son of LoAnn Sechtem, Russell, and the late Gale Sechtem, graduated with honors May 17 from Wichita State University. He received a doctor of philosophy in communication sciences and disorders and was inducted into the Alpha Eta National Honor Society.
He received a bachelor of arts degree in communication from Fort Hays State University in 1990 and a master of science degree from FHSU in 1994. He has worked as a speech-language pathologist in hospital settings in Kansas and Missouri.
While at Wichita State University, he was a full-time faculty member and clinical instructor at Fort Hays State University.
His academic, clinical and research interests include acquired speech, language, voice and swallowing disorders that can develop with the onset of stroke, brain injury, trauma, progressive illness or myriad other factors.
He has presented his research at state and national conferences including the annual conventions of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, the Kansas Speech-Language-Hearing Association and the WSU Graduated Research and Scholarly Projects Symposium.
