Wichita dodged the severe weather that struck other parts of Kansas on Sunday -- but also missed most of the rain, too.
Less than half an inch of rain was recorded in the city over the weekend, including .11 of an inch that fell early Monday morning. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Storm Prediction Center logged 36 reports of tornadoes in five states Sunday, including eight in Kansas.
Several of those reports are likely to be different vantage points of the same tornado.
One tornado touched down close to McPherson after sunset Sunday night. Larned and Great Bend appeared to have close calls as well, weather officials said.
"We haven't gotten any reports of major damage," said Scott Smith, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Wichita.
Large hail broke out windows in Pawnee County and large hail was also reported in southwest Kansas.
