Man arrested after incident with shotgun

A Hays man was arrested Friday on a series of charges after he brandished and fired a shotgun into the air after police arrived at what had been reported as a domestic disturbance.
The report of a domestic disturbance in progress was made at 10:11 p.m. Friday in the 2100 block of East 21st, Hays Police Chief Don Scheibler said Monday.
When officers arrived, a man greeted them in front of the residence, with a shotgun in hand.
Scheibler said the man was asking police to shoot him.
When they didn't, he fired a shot into the air before going back in the apartment.
While there were as many as five people inside the apartment at the time the incident first was reported, everyone but the 44-year-old man was able to escape.
Police weren't sure how many had left, however, Scheibler said. Despite that, officers were able to convince the man to surrender.
He was taken into protective custody on suspicion of criminal threat, endangering a child, domestic battery, aggravated assault and battery on a law enforcement officer.
Scheibler commended the officers on the scene, saying they prevented what could have been a deadly incident.
"The officers did an outstanding job in this situation," he said.
