Monarch girls finish third in Russell Invitational By The Hays Daily News

RUSSELL — The Thomas More Prep-Marian track and field teams had 14 top-three finishes Friday at the Russell Relays.

The girls finished third with 98.5 points. Beloit won the meet with 116.

Monarch junior Heather Ruder won the 1,600-meter run and 800-meter run in times of 5 minutes, 24.30 seconds and 2:23.74 respectively.

The 3,200-meter relay team of Ruder, junior Allison Pfeifer, sophomore Kayla Walker and junior Annie Mindrup also won with a time of 10:19.45.

Senior Emilie Taylor tied for first in the pole vault with a vault of 9 feet, 6 inches, and senior Rachel Jacobs won the javelin with a mark of 109-11.

Pfeifer added a third-place finish in the 1,600, and Jacobs was third in the high jump.

Sophomore Samantha Younie finished third in the triple jump and 200-meter dash.

The Monarchs’ sprinting crew led the Monarch boys’ sixth-place finish.

Junior Rodney Gracas de Deus won the 100 in 10.72 seconds and finished second in the 200 in 22.36.

Junior Carlos Duenes finished second in the 400 in 53.55 seconds, and the 400-meter relay team finished third.

Senior Austin Werth tied for first in the pole vault with a mark of 13-0.

Beloit also won on the boys’ side with 136 points.
