TMP boys win Lakeside Invitational

DOWNS -- The Thomas More Prep-Marian boys' cross country team took first place at the Lakeside Invitational on Thursday at the Downs Golf Course. With a team score of 93, TMP narrowly edged Sacred Heart's 96 and Republic County's 97.
The Monarchs had three top-20 finishers, led by Andrew Hess's 5K time of 18 minutes, 31 seconds, good for 10th place. Austin Dinkel took 17th in 18:52, and Mark Loftus 18th in 18:54.
Beloit's Alex Conn won the race with a time of 16:39. Phillipsburg's Wyatt Ratzlaff took third place in 17:39.
Norton won the girls' team title with 67 points, just two ahead of second-place Decatur. TMP took 5th place with 150 points.
Norton's top finisher was Sierra Griffith, who took 5th with a 4K time of 16:58. Darcy Bainter finished 8th for the Bluejays in 17:09. TMP's Kayla Walker led the Monarchs with a 7th-place time of 17:06.
Oberlin's Winter Polivka won the race in 15:31.
