TMP softball picks up road sweep

SYLVAN GROVE — The Thomas More Prep-Marian softball team swept Sylvan-Grove High School on Tuesday, winning 18-2 and 12-4.
In Game 1, freshman Alison Helget and junior Laurel Hageman combined to throw a no-hitter despite giving up two runs. TMP outhit Sylvan-Lucas 11-0 and the Mustangs had 10 errors.
The Monarchs led 8-0 heading into the bottom of the second, 9-2 after three innings, and finished the game off with nine more runs in the fourth inning.
TMP cruised through Game 2 as well, scoring five runs in the second and seven runs in the fourth inning to take a 12-0 lead. The Monarchs outhit Sylvan-Lucas 9-4, but did commit six errors to five for the Mustangs.
Tuesday’s wins mark the first series sweep for TMP softball since its return. The Monarchs are now 3-3 on the season and will play at Garden City on Thursday, a makeup from April 3.
