Interim in charge at Trego high school

WaKEENEY -- An interim principal has taken over as administrator of Trego Community High School following the resignation of John Luhrs and an internal investigation regarding his employment.

Luhrs was placed on administrative leave by district superintendent George Griffith in mid-December. He resigned Jan. 10, citing personal reasons "which prevented him from fulfilling his duties," according to a press release from the district.

Because personnel matters are confidential, details regarding the situation have been scarce. The press release said the administrative leave was enacted "to investigate concerns related to the implementation of policy."

"Mr. Luhrs did not violate any laws or harm any student or staff members," Griffith said in the release.

Myron Flax, formerly a physical education teacher in the district, is fulfilling the role of principal on an interim basis.

"Mr. Luhrs provided the district with some tools to help our students be successful and encouraged students to do their best," Griffith said in the statement. "I feel Mr. Luhrs' resignation will be beneficial for John while allowing the district to continue to move forward in a positive way."
