Vietnam Veterans Chapter 939 of Hays recently announced the winners of three scholarships.

The winners were Kellie Henderson, Phillipsburg, who is attending Barton County Community College; Aaron Dinkel, Plainville, who is attending Fort Hays State University; and Lance Leonard, McDonald, who is attending Kansas State University. Each received $500 to be used towards books and tuition.

The chapter scholarship committee reviewed 30 applications and invited the winners to the chapter meeting for the award presentation.

Chapter 939 has 68 members and is involved in various activities to serve the needs of local veterans. Every fall, they have a needs drive at Walmart to accept donations of clothing and toiletries for the Old Soldiers Home in Dodge City. Last year's drive resulted in eight large boxes of donated items and $500 cash.

They also conduct various fundraising activities and will offer scholarships again next spring.
