Norton girls win Wamego; TMP boys second

WAMEGO -- The Norton Community High School girls' cross country team took first place at the Wamego Invitational on Saturday. Norton had four top-17 finishers in the 107-person field.
Junior Sierra Griffith was Norton's best finisher, taking second with a time of 16 minutes, 48.65 seconds in the 4K race. Darcy Bainter, Katelyn Engelbert and Molly Maddy rounded out Norton's top runners.
The Thomas More Prep-Marian girls took sixth in the event, led by senior Kayla Walker's 18:33.87 to finish 23rd.
The TMP boys took second as a team, falling well short of first place Lenexa-Christ Preparatory Academy. Norton took eighth.
TMP sophomore Andrew Hess finished in 12th place with an 18:43.55 in the 5K race. Norton was led by Nate Hartwell and Marc Miller, who finished 15th and 16th respectively.
Mark Loftus of TMP was the other top-20 finisher between the schools, taking 17th.
