Clinic offers rejuvenating treatments

A wide range of anti-aging services including treatment for spider veins, rosacea, cellulite and wrinkles is available in Hays.
The Nu U Anti-Aging Clinic, 1506 Vine, provides pulsed light treatments and mesotherapies for patients seeking treatment of skin blemishes or weight loss.
In August, the clinic moved from Stockton, where it was known as Med Spa.
"We changed the name and moved down here because the majority of our clients were from down here," LPN Heather Smith said. "We've been doing this type of service for over three years."
Dr. Ann Taylor started out with a general practice but saw patients who were traveling as far as Wichita and Kansas City for services such as hair removal, acne treatment, sunspots and hard-to-lose fat.
Nu U's services rehabilitate the whole person, according to Smith.
"Skin rejuvenation also rejuvenates you," she said. "You look in the mirror, and you feel good. We're always chasing the fountain of youth."
Smith said the clinic's services can be helpful to almost anyone, starting with pre-teenagers.
"If you have the pre-teens and the teens that are starting to have to shave and want hair removal, it's better if they do it younger because the permanence is even longer," Smith said.
Both men and women have used the clinic's services for hair removal, and women tend to seek sun damage removal as well.
Pulsed light treatments remedy both as well as rosacea and acne.
Smith said the treatments are painless for the most part.
"It does have a zing on sunspots, kind of like when you have a rubberband and snap it, but it's short-term," Smith said.
The treatments are expected to last a long time, assuming patients protect their investment.
Smith said clients start with a consultation with the clinic to decide if they are willing to go ahead with the treatments that occur every four to six weeks for up to six or eight visits.
"A lot of times, it takes two to three treatments to really notice that it's helping you," Smith said.
Taylor also is certified to use mesotherapies to reduce cellulite and promote weight loss.
Smith said the clinic uses homeopathic medicines in its procedures, rather than more controversial treatments such as LipoDissolve.
Nu U also has a certified massage therapist who specializes in therapeutic massage and sports rehabilitation.
The clinic is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday or by appointment.
