Moore announces he won't seek re-election

Board member Alan Moore announced at Monday night's board of education meeting he won't run for a third term in 2013.

Moore, who's been on the board since 2005, challenged those who have been involved in the education process and have good ideas and opinions to give running for the board serious consideration.

"It has to be a very significant commitment of time and energy because it will take a toll on you personally," he said. "It will take a toll on your families, but it's extremely rewarding. ... Important decisions need to be made, (and) I'd like to see people give this consideration."

Moore said he believed it was his responsibility as a committed board member to let the community know his intentions.

He suggested anyone interested in running start attending board meetings.

"You will serve a year before you grasp all the issues and feel like you're truly contributing," he said.
